Wayang Jogja Night Carnival (WJNC) has become the flagship event of Yogyakarta City which is held to commemorate the Birthday of Yogyakarta City on October 7 every year.
WJNC is a street carnival (art on the street) by combining the theme of performance that has been held routinely since 2016. This carnival performance involves choreography, fashion, contemporary music, and lighting games. In its development, the carnival concept turned into street art by not leaving the main elements of WJNC, namely the Jogja Monument, ornamental vehicles, Wayang and held at night. WJNC presents a carnival with a street art concept and brings themes from puppet stories involving participants from 14 Kemantren (sub-districts) in Yogyakarta City.
Wayang Jogja Night Carnival #9 will raise the theme of Gatotkaca Wirapraja, which is a collection of stories with Gatotkaca characters in it. The character of Gatotkaca is a figure who can be emulated as a brave figure and has a high spirit of defending the country. In addition, Gatotkaca is also well known and can be said to be the Local Hero of Indonesia.
Just like the previous year, WJNC #9 will collaborate with the art community, MSMEs, and related services to provide more experiences for visitors through “WJNC Fest”.
